Lew Tolstoi (1828-1910) – war russischer Roman- und Dramaschrifsteller, Literaturkritiker, Denker und Pädagoge. Ein der hervorragenden Vertreter des literarischen Realismus. Seine Idee, dem Bösen nicht mit Gewalt zu widerstehen, beeinflusste u. a. Martin Luher King.„O wojnie“ („Über den Krieg“) ist eine pazifistische Abhandlung, in der der Verfasser alle Waffenkonflikte verbannt. Tolstoi betont die Sinnlosigkeit und Grausamkeit der Kriege, sowie die Tatsache, sie sind mit allen religiösen Systemen unvereinbar. Nach Tolstoi ist ein Gebet um die Hilfe Gottes bei Kriegshandlungen ein Sakrilegium.
