Czasopismo Der nordische Aufseher zostało założone przez niemieckiego, luterańskiego teologa i poetę Johanna Andreasa Cramera (1723-1788). Pismo ukazywało się w latach 1758-1761 i miało formę tygodnika, poświęconego kreowaniu określonych postaw moralnych. Ukazywało się ono w duńskiej Kopenhadze, gdzie od 1754 roku Cramer przebywał na zaproszenie tamtejszego monarchy Fryderyka V Oldenburga (jako nadworny kaznodzieja). W piśmie autor zwracał szczególną uwagę na znaczenie postaw biblijnych w czasach mu współczesnych, akcentując aktualność również i Starego Testamentu w dobie Oświecenia. Uważając, że tylko człowiek moralny może być człowiekiem szczęśliwym Cramer zachęcał do poszukiwania szczęścia za pomocą gorliwego przestrzegania porad z Biblii (np. zachęcając do ożenku i życia religijnego).
