Biblioteka Elbląska w swoich zbiorach dokumentów życia społecznego posiada kolekcję widokówek (kart pocztowych) promujących różne miasta, m.in.: Elbląg, Braniewo, Gdańsk, Tczew, Malbork, Frombork etc. Wśród zbiorów znajduje się kolekcja 3 kart pocztowych na których uwieczniono kurort nadmorski i turystyczny Sopot (niem. Zoppot). Miasto posiada najdłuższe w Europie molo o drewnianej konstrukcji oraz wiele zabytków i obiektów turystycznych, m.in.: Kościół Zbawiciela, Zakład Balneologiczny, Operę Leśną z 1909, Latarnię Morską, Krzywy Domek, cmentarz żydowski etc. Karty pocztowe pochodzą z 1963 roku, wydane przez „Arkady”, Biuro Wydawnicze „Ruch” oraz „Fotoplastyka”. Na kartach pocztowych uwieczniono fragment miasta, plażę, molo oraz herb Sopotu (z książki M. Gumowskiego „Herby miast polskich”).
