Szkic biograficzny, poświęcony Ferdinandowi Gottlobowi Schichau’owi (1814-1896 ) – elbląskiemu przedsiębiorcy, konstruktorowi maszyn parowych i okrętów. Autor przyznaje Schichauowi patetyczny tytuł „księcia pracy na niemieckim wschodzie”. Według danych zawartych w biografii, późniejszy przedsiębiorąca od najmłodszych lat zdradzał wybitne zdolności, zwłaszcza w zakresie rozwiązywania skomplikowanych zagadnień mechanicznych. Podczas terminowania u elbląskiego ślusarza, miał rzekomo zadziwiać wszystkich pilnością i skrupulatnością. Jeszcze przed ukończeniem swojej praktyki wykonał model maszyny parowej i wprawił go w ruch. Zakłady Schichau’a, kierowane po jego śmierci przez jego zięcia Carla von Ziese, były wówczas największą niemiecką firmą pozostającą w prywatnych rękach.
