Periodyk publikował teksty i informacje z zakresu szeroko pojętej genealogii, heraldyki oraz demografii historycznej. Familiengeschichtliche Blätter, w okresie 1903-1909 wydawane było z podtytułem Zeitschrift zur Förderung der Familiengeschichtsforschung für Adel und Bürgerstand, w okresie 1910-1919 z podtytułem Monatsschrift zur Förderung der Familiengeschichtsforschung, a od 1920 roku z podtytułem Monatsschrift für die gesamte deutsche wissenschaftliche Genealogie. W latach 1935-1939 nadano tytuł i spis czasopisma Der deutschen Herold. Biblioteka Elbląska w swoich zasobach posiada roczniki z lat 1924-1942.
