Czasopismo Physikalische Zeitung ukazywało się w Halle w roku 1784 dzięki wysiłkom Johanna Carla Christiana Löwe, który pełnił funkcję redaktora periodyku. Miało ono planowo charakter tygodnika. W 1874 roku ukazało się 48 numerów. Poświęcone było ono szeroko pojmowanym zagadnieniom z zakresu nauk przyrodniczych. Artykuły dotyczyły w większości zagadnień przyrodniczych (np. taksonomii w królestwie roślin i zwierząt), geologii (m. in. prób opisania królestwa minerałów) czy meteorologii (np. tabelaryczne układy prędkości wiatrów w poszczególnych regionach i miesiącach). Artykuły w piśmie nie były ograniczone geograficznie do obszaru Północnych i Wschodnich Niemiec (pojawiały się bowiem teksty dotyczące roślinności na Litwie czy rozwoju rolnictwa w Habsburskich Czechach). Na uwagę zasługują wzmianki o nowościach (np. o uprawie kartofli). W zbiorach Biblioteki Elbląskiej znajduje się wydanie zbiorcze wydane w Halle w 1784 roku.
