Henri Ghèon (1875-1944) war französischer Dichter, Dramatiker und Literaturkritiker. Das Buch ist eine Biographie von Jean-Baptiste Marie Vianney (1786-1859) – dem Heiligen, katholischen Priester, Probst in Ars, der wegen seiner Fähigkeit des Einblicks in das Gewissen der Gläubigen während der Beichte berühmt war. Er habe im Beichtstuhl 13-17 Stunden täglich gesessen.
